Planning a holiday doesn’t always feel like the wisest thing when money’s tight, but travel doesn’t have to be crazy expensive. There are plenty of destinations all over the world where you don’t have to stretch your purse strings very far, and thankfully, we’ve got all the info to make the research a little easier.
E-commerce brand WeThrift has done some research and assessed the affordability of transport, tourist attractions and accommodation, as well as the cost of local delicacies and meals, to determine which destinations around the world are the most affordable.
And scoring 69.2 out of 80 on their index and claiming the number one spot is New Delhi, India’s capital city. Butter chicken and chaat, a local dish, would set you back a measly £1.90 (€2.22, $2.40) per meal here, and transport is also super cheap.
What’s more, the cost of accommodation for a weekend was only around £39 (€45.60, $49.40).
Hanoi in Vietnam came in second place, where the average price of a trip on public transport was just £0.23 (€0.27, $0.29). In third place, it was Cairo, where the price of a drink on average is around £1.06 (€1.25, $1.34), and attraction tickets set you back around £38 (€44.40, $48.15), which is the cheapest on the list.
