Topline
A rural New York property that reportedly inspired one of Billy Joel’s most famous songs, a sprawling pre-war condo in New York City and a star NFL player’s lakefront home are among the luxury properties currently for sale by some of the country’s most popular athletes and Hollywood stars.
Key Facts
Actor Alec Baldwin recently took to YouTube to help tout the features of his longtime Hamptons home currently listed for sale at $18.99 million, a price tag that includes a seven-bed, 9-bath home with a full basement and heated pool built on 10 acres of land that is zoned for expansion, new builds and equestrian use, according to listing agent Scott Bradley.
Hollywood producer Andrew Scheinman, whose credits include “Seinfeld,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Princess Bride,” has listed an ultra-modern new build with a state-of-the-art theater, 72-bottle wine closet, 9-foot waterfall, six bedrooms and nine bathrooms for sale in Los Angeles for $17.75 million.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has listed an estate on Lake Norman in North Carolina for $12.5 million, the Wall Street Journal first reported, including a saltwater pool, outdoor kitchen, stone wine cellar, sauna, gym, 60-foot ceiling and double-sided fireplace.
A chic Greenwich Village loft owned by child-star-turned-fashion-designer Ashley Olsen is on the market for $7.25 million—the residence, which takes up the entire third floor of a 1896 Beaux Arts building, includes a private elevator, original cast iron columns, two bedrooms and three bathrooms.
A home originally built by R&B singer R. Kelly and later occupied by the late Rudolph Isley of the Isley Brothers has hit the market for $3.49 million in a Chicago suburb; Isley’s wife, Elaine, is selling the 1997 house with six bedrooms and 16 bathrooms, a two-story pool hall with waterfall and treehouse, elevator, home theater and fitness center.
Big Number
10. That’s how many days it took for a buyer to snatch up a Spanish-style home in Los Angeles listed earlier this year by Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone. The property, listed for $3.99 million by Sotheby’s International Realty, is currently under contract for sale. It’s an almost 100-year-old house with four bedrooms and bathrooms, double-vaulted ceilings and a guest house.
Tangent
A property currently for sale along New York’s Hudson River has ties to both Billy Joel and J.P. Morgan. The $2.5 million property in rural Orange County, New York, includes three structures on 2.2 acres: a 4,288-square-foot main home, three-bedroom carriage house and separate one-bedroom cottage. The home sits on the same foundation as Cragston, J.P. Morgan’s 1880s summer estate, and includes its original outdoor patio, fireplace and mantel, according to listing agent Jody Atkinson. Cragston was destroyed in a fire in 1948 and the current home was rebuilt in the 1950s using the same foundation and the surviving fireplace and bricks. In the 1970s, the house was a beloved rental of musician Billy Joel. He is said to have written the song “New York State of Mind” in an upstairs bedroom, and the songs “Summer in Highland Falls” and “Songs in the Attic” also refer to the property. The home’s current owners have used it as a bed and breakfast, complete with a “Billy Joel Room.”
