The internet was taken aback when actor Avantika Vandanapu stepped into the role of Karen Smith in Mean Girls, originally portrayed by Amanda Seyfried. Known for her earlier appearances as a child actor in Mahesh Babu’s Brahmotsavam, Naga Chaitanya’s Premam, and Pawan Kalyan’s Agnyaathavaasi, Avantika’s transformation in the American musical comedy has surprised cinephiles.

Social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), witnessed fans sharing clips of Avantika showcasing her talents in Mean Girls. One fan expressed their amazement at her journey from acting in Telugu cinema to making a mark in Hollywood. The fan wrote, “Acting in small roles in Tollywood to Hollywood.”

Another fan shared a clip from Avantika’s interview with Hollywood Reporter, praising her body language and demeanor. The fan wrote, “#AvantikaVandanapu Aa Body Structure Enti 😯 Thana Body Language Enti Intha Change Ah Vammo 🫠#MeanGirls.”

A fan also shared Avantika’s adorable old video with Mahesh Babu where she is seen thanking the superstar for fulfilling her acting dream.

For those unfamiliar, Avantika’s family hails from Hyderabad. She was born into a Telugu family in San Francisco, California, US. She made her debut in 2016 with Mahesh Babu-starrer Brahmotsavam. She has appeared as a child actor in various films, including Naga Chaitanya’s Premam, Rarandoi Veduka Chudham, and Pawan Kalyan’s Agnyaathavaasi. Avantika also marked her debut in Tamil cinema with Aishwarya Rajesh’s 2021 film Boomika.

Her upcoming Hollywood film, Mean Girls, directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., is an American musical teen comedy based on the Broadway musical of the same name. The musical is a rendition of Mark Waters’s 2004 comedy film, both inspired by Rosalind Wiseman’s 2002 book Queen Bees and Wannabes.
