The National Weather Service in Birmingham plans to keep the winter weather advisory in place for now, with no upgrade.
Here’s the latest hazard and time-line for the winter weather event. Based on new data and trends, freezing rain amounts of 0.10″ to 0.20″ appear likely tonight across the entire area. This will cause very dangerous driving conditions. We would encourage you to stay off the roads if possible.
For our northwest counties in a line from near Vernon to Jasper and points north could get up to 2″ of snow and sleet, while most areas to the south will get all freezing rain and sleet. Depending on how long moisture stays around, there could be enough sleet to whiten the ground in some areas tonight. The event could end as a few snow flurries.
